These three characters are street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these ladies are the only ones who have a grip on reality. PLEASE NOTE: These characters are intended to honour the “Girl Groups” of 1960’s Motown whose singers were primarily women of colour. As such, we ask that only actors of colour audition for these roles. We encourage those who are auditioning for one of these roles to consider auditioning for the role of Audrey, as well.

SHOW SYNOPSIS AND OUR PRODUCTION
Book by Howard Ashman
Music by Alan Menken
Lyrics by Howard Ashman
Based on the Film by Roger Corman, screenplay by Charles Griffith
Directed by Kimberley Babb
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is an award-winning comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh! The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film of the same name, directed by Roger Corman. The deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world. The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, the charmingly tongue-in-cheek comedy has been produced worldwide to incredible success. In 1986, Frank Oz directed another film adaptation, this one based on the musical itself. Menken composed the music, in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown. Show hits include the title song, “Skid Row (Downtown)”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly, Seymour”. The musical premiered Off-Off-Broadway in 1982, moved to the Orpheum Theatre Off-Broadway for a five-year run, and later enjoyed a Broadway production. This popular show was the winner of three Best Musical awards (Drama Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, and Evening Standard Award), as well as capturing the Outer Critics Circle Award. Korda co-produced the show in 2016, and it returns now as a "From the Vault" offering for 2027 - helping to mark our 20th Anniversary Season of performances at our home in The KordaZone Theatre!
"No matter how many times you've seen the show... the hook-filled, doo-wop–style tunes, easily Menken's best score, sound just as good as you remember."
- New York Stage Review
"Exceptional. The show was funny, silly, scary and sad… loved it!"
- Broadway.com
"...A grotesque, gothic story, if one played for laughs. ... [It] is a little thing that packs a big punch."
- The Guardian - Review of the 1986 Film
"[A] revitalizing revival of this genially gruesome classic [that] becomes a sly morality tale for the age of universal celebrity."
- The New York Times
"...a score that's timelessly sweet and soulful, and a story that's teasingly kinky yet weirdly old fashioned."
- Variety
