Little Shop of Horrors

January 29, 30, 31 and February 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 & 13, 2027

Music by Alan Menken

Lyrics by Howard Ashman

Based on the Film by Roger Corman; Screenplay by Charles Griffith

Directed by Kimberley Babb

Musical Direction by Jordan Fantauzzo

The 2027 Season Opener, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is an award-winning comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh! The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film of the same name, directed by Roger Corman. The deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 40 years. One of the most popular shows in the world, the story introduces us to meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, the charmingly tongue-in-cheek comedy has been produced worldwide to incredible success. The musical premiered Off-Off-Broadway in 1982, moved to the Orpheum Theatre Off-Broadway for a five-year run, and later enjoyed a Broadway production. This popular show was the winner of three Best Musical awards (Drama Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, and Evening Standard Award), as well as capturing the Outer Critics Circle Award. In 1986, Frank Oz directed another film adaptation, this one based on the musical itself. Menken composed the music, in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown. Show hits include the title song, Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That’s Green, and Suddenly, Seymour. Korda co-produced the show in 2016, and it returns now as a From-the-Vault offering for 2027. This time around, the show is helmed by KordaBoarda member Kimberley Babb, who directed The Woman in Black as part of Korda’s 2025 Season. Korda Alumni Jordan Fantauzzo serves as music director.

Special thanks to the City of Windsor’s Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund (ACHF) Grant Program for supporting the production with a grant to cover artist fees. Visit www.ACHFWindsor.ca to learn more about the program.

The Frogs

April 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 & 24, 2027

Written by Aristophanes

Newly Adapted by Jeff Marontate

Directed by Jeff Marontate

THE FROGS is a Greek comedy written by Aristophanes in 405 BC, and newly adapted by Korda’s Resident Director Jeff Marontate, who previously successfully adapted the same author’s The Birds and Lysistrata. The God of Wine and Drama Dionysus and his slave, Xanthias, travel to the Underworld to resurrect a brilliant writer with the hope of saving civilization from corruption, evil and ignorance.  A high stakes crossing of the River Styx, a croaking chorus of frogs, and a hilarious battle of wits bring this raucous, biting social satire to life, championing the power of theatre, logic, and poetry to heal and unite. This unforgettable classic will be directed by Marontate, whose recent Korda directing credits include 2026’s Tartuffe, 2025’s Return to the Forbidden Planet and The Importance of Being Earnest, 2024’s Psycho Beach Party and Frankenstein, and 2023’s The Rocky Horror Show.

“A riotous, laugh-out-loud buddy comedy that doubles as the ultimate ancient precursor to the modern roast battle… Packed with slapstick… and biting fourth-wall breaks that make the 405 BC text feel as relevant as today’s late-night TV.” – Antler Flax Book Reviews

“The heavy, philosophical sparring match between the poets proves that Aristophanes loved a good literary debate just as much as he loved a dirty joke.” – Mirabile Dictu Review

“A fever dream of a play that includes metatheatre, modern absurdities… and a relentless barrage of jokes.” – The Cheese Grater Magazine.

“The Frogs embraces two transcendent issues: the decline of Athens as a great power… and the decline of tragedy as a great form of art.” – Goodreads Classical Commentary

Eurydice

June 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 & 19, 2027

Written by Sarah Ruhl

Directed by Tracey B. Atin

In EURYDICE – Korda’s second trip to the underworld for the 2027 Season – playwright Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story. EURYDICE premiered off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre on June 18, 2007. Korda first produced the show, with Korda Founder Tracey B. Atin at the helm in 2014. For 2027, the title is the third From-the-Vault offering to celebrate the company’s 20th Anniversary of performing in The KordaZone Theatre, which Atin and company built with Atin’s late husband, Robert Godden. Atin returns to the director’s chair once again for this exciting remount.

“RHAPSODICALLY BEAUTIFUL. A weird and wonderful new play – an inexpressibly moving theatrical fable about love, loss and the pleasures and pains of memory." – The New York Times

“EXHILARATING! A luminous retelling of the Orpheus myth, lush and limpid as a dream where both author and audience swim in the magical, sometimes menacing, and always thrilling flow of the unconscious.” – The New Yorker

Rhinoceros

September 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25, 2027

Written by Eugène Ionesco

Directed by Jeremy Burke

The sublime is confused with the ridiculous in this savage commentary on the human condition, a staple of 20th century drama. RHINOCEROS is a landmark 1959 absurdist play by French-Romanian playwright Eugène Ionesco. It explores mass hysteria, conformity, and totalitarianism through a French town where citizens inexplicably transform into rhinoceroses. The protagonist, Bérenger, is the last human remaining, desperately struggling to hold onto his identity as everyone around him joins the herd. Widely interpreted as a reaction to the rise of Nazism in Europe, the play critiques how easily ordinary people can adopt dangerous, mob-like ideologies. The transformations are contagious. As citizens become rhinoceroses, they justify it by claiming they must "move with the times.” RHINOCEROS was first produced by the Old Vic Company at the Theatre Royal, Bristol, England on September 5, 1960, and won a 1961 Tony Award, and a 1961 Outer Critics Circle Special Award. The show will be helmed by KordaBoarda Member Jeremy Burke, whose recent Korda directing credits include 2026’s Ride The Cyclone, 2025’s The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, 2024’s The Trench, and 2023’s Romeo & Juliet

“Strange, disturbing and arresting.” – New York Post

“An allegory for our times.” – The New York Times

“Its satirical humor, combined with its provocative theme and surprisingly moving ending, results in an evening that is strange, disturbing and arresting.” – New York Post

Into The Woods

December 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 & 18, 2027

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Book by James Lapine

Originally Directed on Broadway by James Lapine

Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick

Director TBD

Music Director TBD

In a departure from a traditional holiday panto offering, Korda’s thrilling 2027 season will end with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s wondrous fractured-fairytale musical hit INTO THE WOODS. The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family, and the choices we make. This is a fresh take on everyone’s favourite storybook characters, brought together here for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. When a Witch tasks a Baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairytales to reverse the curse she placed on their family tree, the two set off on an unforgettable journey into the woods. They are joined by Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival to meet her prince; Little Red Riding Hood, off to bring some treats to her poor old granny; and Jack, who is on a mission to sell his beloved cow. Wishes are granted, curses are reversed, and the heroes of our story learn to be careful what you wish for. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. One of Sondheim’s most popular works, INTO THE WOODS is a musically sophisticated show. This From-the-Vault offering brings an explosion of magic to The KordaZone Theatre’s stage, with an adventure that’s pitch-perfect for the holiday season. Korda will seek a director and musical to helm the production, while Korda’s Tracey B. Atin and Christopher Lawrence Menard will reprise their roles as The Witch and The Baker from the 2017 show.

“The material of ‘Into the Woods’ is potent stuff – Mr. Sondheim’s lyrics and Mr. Lapine’s book tap into the psychological mother lode from which so much of life and literature spring… the conception is brilliant.” – The New York Times

“A beautiful adult fairytale that never once tries to talk down to the audience.” – PopCult Reviews

“To hear ‘No One Is Alone’, the cathartic and beautiful final song of Into the Woods, is to be overwhelmed once more by the continuity of one of the American theater’s most extraordinary songwriting careers.” – The New York Times

“Thoughtful, emotionally intelligent… beautiful, and full of heart.” – 1883 Magazine
